The Story

Tulane University has started a new program that brings investors, entrepreneurs and executives in to coach students on how to create successful businesses.

The Albert Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation’s 12 Innovators-in-Residence program teams 12 successful mentors with student startups to give them feedback on their ventures.

They include Timothy Bovard of Search Fund Accelerator, Jeffery Silverman of Laconia Capital Group LP and Mike Katz of Tahoga LLC, who have invested in companies such as TripleLift, ALICE, StubHub, Dollar Shave Club and 23andMe.

Others founded their own ventures, including Allen Square of Square Button and Marianne Van Meter of Legacy Capital.

John Elstrott, former chairman of the board at Whole Foods Market Inc. and former emeritus executive director of the Levy-Rosenblum Institute for Entrepreneurship, and Jim Christian, formerly of Anschutz Investment Company and Paribas, are also in the program. So are commercial banking and real estate veteran Stacey Berger, cardiologist Dr. Christopher Damm, former GE chief diversity officer Deborah Elam, former director of communications for the city of New Orleans Sally Forman and Kevin Ryan, who will coach students on marketing and selling products and services.
