The annual summit for research institution gap fund and accelerator programs, including proof of concept programs, startup accelerators, and university venture funds

The Story

Postgrad students from Cambridge University have won a competition for innovators.

The final judging ceremony of the McKinsey Innovate 2012 competition, held at The Commonwealth Club in London produced victory for The Ethical Tomato Co, four postgraduate students on the university’s Engineering for Sustainable Development masters programme.

The annual contest, sponsored by global management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company, pits teams of university students from across the UK against each other to compete for £5,000 of seed funding to implement their ideas as a social enterprise.

The Ethical Tomato Co. presented a scheme to tackle problems faced by a number small-scale tomato farmers in Mexico, and plan to spend their prize on providing the growers with new technology.
