The University of Washington’s CoMotion and Population Health Initiative have announced the Spring 2025 Innovation Gap Fund winners, awarding $75,000 each to two research teams for a total of $150,000 in funding. The selected projects are strategically aligned with UW’s goals of advancing population health and driving sustainable commercial or social impact.
•Immunoassay at Home (IA@Home): This project targets early detection of chronic inflammation, a precursor to major diseases, by combining affordable, high-sensitivity paper microfluidic tests with AI-powered guidance. The solution enables at-home monitoring and proactive health management, supporting early intervention and lifestyle changes to prevent serious health outcomes.
•Lung Ultrasound Sensor (LUSS): This initiative is developing a low-cost, wearable, automated lung ultrasound sensor for continuous, radiation-free monitoring of pulmonary conditions. LUSS aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce reliance on manual exams, with significant applications for heart failure, pneumonia, dialysis patients, and broader hospital and non-hospital care settings.
