The Story

Venture capital firm Scottish Equity Partners has made a “significant” donation to a fund which invests in business ventures by members of the University of Strathclyde’s community.

SEP has made the gift to the Strathclyde Entrepreneurs Fund, which provides early stage investment in companies and ventures run by the University’s staff, students and alumni.

The fund has supported a wide range of companies since its inception, including IT company Cojengo, which produces apps enabling farmers in Africa to have disease in their livestock diagnosed and treated, and personal safety alarm company Pick Protection.

Karen Boyle, head of the university’s alumni & development team, said: “Entrepreneurship permeates our activity at Strathclyde and our entrepreneurial culture has produced many successful companies in spheres including energy, technology and health. The Strathclyde Entrepreneurs Fund is a major element of the support we provide to these companies.

“SEP is a highly valued partner of Strathclyde and its donation will enable us to help even more ventures establish themselves.”

Calum Paterson, managing partner at SEP, said: “The University of Strathclyde is firmly established as a world-class technological university.  We are delighted to support this exciting new fund, which will encourage more entrepreneurship amongst the University’s staff, students and alumni, and build on the University’s excellent reputation for commercialisation.”

Strathclyde was named Entrepreneurial University of the Year in the 2013 Times Higher Education Awards. The University has also won in the Business School of the Year (2016) UK University of the Year (2012) and Research Project of the Year (2011) categories.
