The Story

People magazine reports that Selena recently made a donation to the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine to establish the Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research.  Selena revealed in 2015 that she suffered from the autoimmune disease, and even underwent chemotherapy as part of her treatment.

In a statement, the singer says, “I continue to be optimistic about the progress being made in lupus research and am proud to support the promising work at Keck School of Medicine. I am hopeful for the millions of us around the world that may benefit from this.”

Selena’s donation will fund a research program on treating the complications of lupus.

Last August, Selena took a break from the spotlight to treat “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” she suffered due to her diagnosis.  She returned to the public eye at the American Music Awards in November.
