The Story

Datebox Inc., an Oklahoma City startup company that provides couples with creative dating ideas and products, has secured a $2.6 million seed round investment.

The investment round included $1.3 million from the i2E-managed Oklahoma Seed Capital Fund, along with $300,000 from the SeedStep Angels group, also managed by i2E. The seed round also included $1 million of private investment capital.

For a monthly subscription starting around $30 per month, couples receive a Datebox each month designed to help them rediscover date night and spend more quality time together, the company said. The date might include a sushi course for two, or a faux camping night along with ingredients to make s’mores, playing cards or even an around-the-world home coffee roasting experience.

“The funding will be used to personalize the dating experience for our couples, as well as building a platform that allows us to partner with local businesses to send our couples out into their communities for their date night,” Datebox co-founder and CEO Brett Kolomyjec said in a statement.

“We’re building so that the Datebox subscription platform can be one that encourages couples to venture out into their local communities and discover new venues, restaurants and experiences for their dates,” Kolomyjec said. “Date night is such a crucial part of any relationship and we want to do everything we can to help couples make that experience simple and fun.”

Datebox has delivered its products to all 50 states.

The Oklahoma Seed Capital Fund is a state-appropriated investment fund managed by i2E through the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology.

The SeedStep Angels group was founded by i2E in 2009 and is now the state’s largest angel investment group with more than 50 members and chapters in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Ardmore and Muskogee.
