Award & Investment Overview
Launch Tennessee has awarded a total of $300,000 through the inaugural Tennessee Technology Advancement Consortium (TTAC) Technology Maturation Grant, supporting three university-affiliated startups advancing technologies toward commercial readiness.
The inaugural awardees include Terra Watts and Minco Technologies, both commercializing innovations from Tennessee Tech, and FloUV, a startup commercializing research from Tennessee State University.
Each recipient had already secured a letter of interest from an industry partner or prospective customer, demonstrating early commercial demand prior to receiving funding. The grants are intended to accelerate technology maturation, reduce commercialization risk, and position the companies for follow-on investment and customer adoption.
Approach & Ecosystem Context
The TTAC Technology Maturation Grant fills an important commercialization gap between proof of concept and early market entry by supporting technologies that have demonstrated technical promise and initial customer validation.
Unlike many early-stage research grants, TTAC requires evidence of commercial interest before investment. This emphasis on customer engagement aligns funding with technologies that have begun reducing market risk alongside technical risk.
From a Mind the GAP perspective, the program represents an effective commercialization model that combines university research, industry engagement, and targeted translational funding. The inaugural cohort also demonstrates the diversity of commercialization opportunities emerging from Tennessee’s research institutions, spanning advanced energy infrastructure, food safety, and aerospace propulsion.

The three funded companies are commercializing technologies that address infrastructure, food processing, and defense applications.
Terra Watts is developing a wireless underground power transmission system capable of transmitting electricity through soil, reducing reliance on conventional buried copper infrastructure.
FloUV is commercializing a patented UV-C processing platform that disinfects opaque liquids such as dairy products and juices without heat treatment or chemical preservatives, helping preserve product quality while improving food safety.
Minco Technologies is developing fuel-flexible propulsion systems for unmanned aircraft designed to extend operational range while simplifying fuel logistics for defense and commercial unmanned aerial systems.
