The Story

Award & Investment Overview

MintNeuro, an Imperial College London spinout developing specialized semiconductor chips for neural devices, has raised $5 million from European and U.S. investors to move from technology validation into commercial scale-up.

Odyssey Ventures led the round, with participation from 33East, JSK Investments, Alumni Ventures, Empirical Ventures, Jumpspace Ventures, and other existing investors.

The financing will support faster product launches, additional customer programs, new commercial partnerships, and international expansion, including growth into the U.S. market.

MintNeuro has already delivered functioning chips and achieved integration milestones with partners including Motif Neurotech in the U.S. and Amber Therapeutics in the UK. Earlier in 2026, the company entered a multi-year commercial chip supply agreement with Motif supporting development of a minimally invasive neurostimulator initially targeting treatment-resistant depression.

The $5 million financing represents a significant commercialization transition. MintNeuro is no longer primarily de-risking whether its semiconductor platform can function in neural devices. Its focus is shifting toward product launches, customer programs, commercial supply, and international scale.

Approach & Ecosystem Context

MintNeuro originated in Imperial’s Next Generation Neural Interfaces Lab, led by Professor Tim Constandinou in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Constandinou and then-postdoctoral researcher Dorian Haci founded the company in 2022, building on a business case developed through the MedTech SuperConnector, an accelerator run by Imperial to support promising medical technology innovations.

The company subsequently raised £1 million in 2024, supported by an investment from the Imperial College Enterprise Fund and conversion of a loan note issued through the MedTech SuperConnector Seed Fund.

This progression provides a useful example of a university commercialization pathway extending from laboratory research through accelerator support, seed financing, institutional venture investment, technical validation, industry partnerships, and external growth capital.

From a Mind the GAP perspective, the sequence matters. The MedTech SuperConnector helped develop the early business case, while its Seed Fund and the Imperial College Enterprise Fund provided capital during earlier stages of company development. Those mechanisms helped MintNeuro reach working silicon and partner integration milestones that can support a larger external financing round.

The current financing shifts the commercialization challenge again. MintNeuro must now convert technical validation and early partnerships into repeatable customer programs, product launches, commercial supply relationships, and international growth.

Innovation & Technology

MintNeuro develops semiconductor chips purpose-built for devices that interface with the brain and nervous system.

Neural implant developers typically face a hardware constraint. They can use generic semiconductor components that were not specifically designed for operation inside the body, or undertake lengthy custom-chip development.

MintNeuro is developing specialized chips intended to provide an alternative platform for companies building neural interfaces and implantable devices.

This positions the company as an enabling technology supplier rather than solely a developer of a single neurological therapy or implant. Its semiconductor platform can potentially support multiple device companies and therapeutic applications.

That model is already being tested commercially. MintNeuro has delivered functioning chips and reached integration milestones with Motif Neurotech and Amber Therapeutics. Its multi-year supply agreement with Motif provides an important commercialization proof point because the relationship extends beyond research collaboration into planned commercial chip supply.

The broader opportunity is tied to the development of neural implants and brain-computer interfaces addressing neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, and treatment-resistant depression.
