Advancing research-driven innovation
through gap fund and accelerator collaboration, shared intelligence, and coordinated external engagement.
The Gap Fund and Accelerator Program Community of Action (GAP COA) convenes research institution gap fund and accelerator programs (GAP) — including translational research, proof-of-concept, startup accelerator, and affiliated venture initiatives — through the leaders responsible for their strategy and performance. The Consortium provides a dedicated, institutional coordinating forum for collective insight, program refinement, and structured engagement with aligned commercial, investment, and philanthropic partners.
Unlike broad commercialization networks, GAP COA is dedicated exclusively to GAP-stage programs and structured around institutional program leadership.
Share Intelligence
Participants contribute to and draw from collective insight across research institution gap fund and accelerator programs operating at the gap stage. Through structured peer exchange, longitudinal program observation, and focused working sessions, the Consortium surfaces emerging models in capital deployment, startup formation, governance, and commercialization strategy.
Strengthen Programs
The Consortium supports refinement of proof-of-concept, translational research, startup accelerator, and affiliated venture initiatives. Participants examine funding structures, evaluation frameworks, partnership models, and performance indicators to strengthen program durability, institutional positioning, and commercialization impact.
Coordinate Engagement
The GAP COA facilitates structured engagement with aligned commercial, investment, and philanthropic partners. Through coordinated initiatives, curated introductions, and collective visibility, participants expand external relationships while maintaining institutional control and alignment with program objectives.
Research institutions operating or ADVANCING gap fund or accelerator programs are invited to participate.

Collective Impact Across the Gap-Stage Ecosystem
Findings from the Mind the Gap landscape and state-of-practice research initiative provide a field-level perspective on the scale and outcomes of research institution gap fund and accelerator programs across the broader community.
These programs play a critical role in advancing research-driven innovation from proof-of-concept through startup formation and commercial partnership.
These outcomes reflect the collective impact of gap fund and accelerator programs operating at the critical bridge between discovery and traditional commercialization — a role that the GAP COA exists to strengthen through dedicated peer collaboration, shared intelligence, and coordinated engagement across the innovation ecosystem.
A Global Community of GAP-stage Program Leaders
Participation in the GAP COA spans research institutions developing and advancing structured gap-stage programs — from proof-of-concept funds and translational initiatives to startup accelerators, affiliated venture funds, and emerging hybrid models.
The Consortium brings together the leaders shaping these programs across universities, hospitals, academic medical centers, national laboratories, government-affiliated initiatives, and research-driven innovation organizations worldwide.
As GAP-stage funding and accelerator models continue to evolve globally, the GAP COA provides a dedicated forum for institutions seeking structured peer collaboration and coordinated ecosystem engagement.
Core Strategic Initiatives
The GAP COA is supported by a set of strategic initiatives designed to strengthen gap-stage programs, enhance field-level intelligence, and coordinate structured external engagement.
Together, these initiatives reinforce the GAP COA’s role as a dedicated forum for advancing gap-stage innovation infrastructure across research institutions.
