The Story

Four local startups founded by students and University of Wisconsin faculty are getting a second round of state grants to advance their new business models.

The four are among nine UW system startups that are sharing $325,000 in grant awarded through the Ideadvance Seed Fund program. That $2 million program is run by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and UW-Extension Center of Technology Commercialization. It was formed to help create businesses around new technology created at UW campuses.

The first grants in the program were awarded last May. Four teams from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Whitewater on Monday were selected to receive a second award of up to $50,000. Those four include Innovative Foundry Technologies, UW-Whitewater; and NanoAffix Science, Tali Payments and Organic Research Corp., all of UW-Milwaukee. You can read more about their products, which include a cloud-based mobile payment service, here.

The Ideadvance program also awarded first-time grants of up to $25,000 to five other collaborations. Those are DG-1 Technologies of UW-Milwaukee; Gift of Tongues, UW-Eau Claire; Ictect of the WiSys Technology Foundation; Tactical Athlete of UW-Milwaukee; and YourBook of UW-Platteville.
