Universities in Europe will produce the next generation of outstanding deeptech businesses. At least, that’s what Jamie Macfarlane, the CEO and creator of Creator Fund, believes.
Creator Fund just established a $20 million fund, its second after a $5 million fund in January 2021, to invest in early-stage deeptech startups from UK universities in fields such as AI, life sciences, robotics, and quantum computing. The investing team consists of 38 PhD students spread across 28 universities in the United Kingdom.
The fund is supported by over 70 LPs, including the founders of Wayve, Lastminute.com, and Faculty, as well as GPs from renowned European investment companies including Kindred Capital, firstminute.capital, and MMC Ventures.
It has also launched a smaller $1 million angel fund focused to university investments across Europe, as part of a pan-European growth strategy aimed at replicating its success in the UK across the continent.
