A total of five University of Manitoba research projects will receive a total investment of nearly $550,000 over two years through Research Manitoba’s Innovation Proof-of-Concept (IPoC) Grant Program. The grants have been awarded to successful candidates in three areas: bioscience; infrastructure, transportation, and technologies; and advanced manufacturing.
Donald Miller (professor, Max Rady Faculty of Health Sciences), Zahra Moussavi (professor, Price Faculty of Engineering) and Ayesha Saleem (assistant professor, Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management) will receive the bioscience portion for research involving radiation therapy advancements, sleep apnea treatments and diagnostic markers of genetic disease.
Song Liu (professor, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences) will receive funding for their research into corrosion-resistant plumbing infrastructure, and Pooneh Maghoul (adjunct professor, Price Faculty of Engineering) is the successful candidate for the advanced manufacturing grant for their work involving space mining robotics.

The Research Manitoba IPoC Grant Program was created to bridge the funding gap between research concepts and production to advance various Manitoba industries and promote the global reach of Manitoba-based research. For more information, view the full announcement here.
