The annual summit for research institution gap fund and accelerator programs, including proof of concept programs, startup accelerators, and university venture funds

The Story

Program Overview

The MSU Research Foundation has launched two sector-based cohorts under its CONQUER Accelerator: the Detroit Healthcare Cohort and the FinTech Cohort. Each group includes five selected startups receiving targeted programming, mentorship, and industry access designed to accelerate commercialization within their respective sectors.

The healthcare cohort benefits from support and validation access through Henry Ford Health + MSU Health Sciences, strengthening clinical integration pathways.

Strategic Relevance for GAP Leaders

Vertical accelerators reduce commercialization friction by:

• Embedding industry expertise directly into cohort design
• Accelerating regulatory and reimbursement navigation
• Aligning investor targeting within defined sectors
• Creating stronger corporate and health system validation pipelines

For university GAP programs, this model enhances portfolio coherence and improves capital stack readiness across funded ventures.
